just finished it im still confused was it actually a religious rapture or just a really polite alien invasion? the ending with kate in the observatory makes it feel like it was some kind of multi-dimensional communication gone wrong but then Father Jeremy’s arc makes it feel totally divine
its basically both thats the genius of it to the scientists (Stephen/Kate) it was a biological/celestial event they could quantify to the villagers it was God the pattern is just an entity that doesn't understand that humans are fragile and absorbing them into the light kills them its like a kid picking up a bug too hard
stephen was such an arrogant prick though he basically doomed the whole village because he couldn't stop playing with the shiny light the love triangle subplots felt a bit soapy but man when you find the spots where the people were actually vaporized... that hits different
