Just picked up this 85" beast for the living room. For $699.99, the sheer scale of it is insane. I was worried that an 85-inch QLED at this price point would look washed out, but the colors are surprisingly punchy, especially with HDR content. Perfect for Sunday football. Just a heads up. You definitely need a soundbar because the built-in speakers don't match the scale of the screen at all.
@teddy I’m on the fence about this one. How is the motion handling? It’s the Q5 series, so I’m guessing it’s a 60Hz panel. Does it get blurry during fast sports movements or high-speed gaming? I’m coming from an older 65-inch OLED and I’m worried the black levels on a giant QLED like this will just look like dark grey in a dim room
@FoxOfTheBug1986 you’re not wrong about the blacks—if you’re used to an OLED, you’ll definitely notice some blooming in a dark room. But for a bright living room, the QLED brightness helps a lot. As for motion, it's fine for the NFL, but I probably wouldn't make it my main competitive gaming rig. Honestly, though, for seven hundred bucks, you're paying for the 'wow factor' of the size. It makes a 65-inch look like a computer monitor!
@teddy Fair point. I guess you can't expect high-end local dimming at a $500 discount off the original value. For a secondary media room or a 'budget' home theater, it’s hard to argue with that price-to-inch ratio. Might have to pull the trigger before the sale ends. Thanks for the insight!
@FoxOfTheBug1986 Exactly. If you’re a hardcore cinephile, you’ll find the flaws, but for 90% of people, it’s a massive upgrade. Just make sure you have a wide enough TV stand—those feet are pretty far apart! Honestly, at $699, it's the best 'bang for your buck' 85-inch out there right now. Enjoy the new setup if you grab it!
@teddy True, the footprint on an 85-inch is no joke! Just checked my console and it'll fit with an inch to spare. Going to head to the store and pick it up today. Thanks for the reality check on the specs vs. price!
