What You Need to Know Before Buying
Before purchasing a full-frame mirrorless camera like the Sony Alpha 7 IV, consider the following technical aspects:
- Lens System: Research the available lenses within the Sony E-mount system and ensure they fit your photography needs and budget. Many high-quality lenses are expensive.
- Memory Card: Decide on the type and speed of SD cards necessary for your shooting style (e.g., high-speed UHS-II cards for 4K video). Check compatibility.
- Workflow: Think about your post-processing workflow and whether the camera's file format (RAW or JPEG) aligns with your software and computer's capabilities. RAW files are large.
Extra Tips
- Consider your photography style: The Alpha 7 IV is versatile, but its strengths shine in certain areas (e.g., video, portraits, landscapes). Assess if its features align with your preferred genre.
- Hands-on experience: If possible, visit a store and try the camera before purchasing. This allows you to assess its ergonomics and user interface.
- Read reviews: Explore in-depth reviews from various sources to gain a broader understanding of its performance and limitations.
- Accessories: Plan for additional accessories like extra batteries, chargers, and a comfortable carrying strap.
- Future-proofing: Consider the camera's potential for future upgrades and the lifespan of its technology.
