Picked up the FR165 as a first running watch while training for my first race, and I’ve been really happy so far. light, comfortable, and looks good enough for daily wear. the amoled screen is super clear outdoors, and GPS connects fast (about 30 seconds). battery lasts me over a week with a few runs per week. for the price, it nails the basics and performs like a more premium watch.
I’d give it a solid 7/10 - great value for new runners.
@JessePinkman Is it accurate with GPS compared to higher-end Garmins?
@Tuyoo honestly, its very close, I ran side-by-side with a Fenix 7, and the route and distance were nearly identical
@JessePinkman same here, GPS locks quick and stays consistent even in wooded areas.
does it track swimming too?
@Genius it has a pool swimming mode for laps and distance, but not open-water tracking
@UltimateKaren right, if you’re training for triathlons or open-water swims, you’ll probably want to step up to a Forerunner 255 or 965
do you need to have your phone with you when running?
@becoyox782 nope, it works totally fine on its own, just syncs the data to Garmin Connect when you’re done
Any downsides so far?
@expertatnothing only thing I wish it had was more sport profiles, like mountain biking or open-water swim
