i stared at this listing for like ten minutes on one hand open box fair scares me. on the other hand this thing new is a grand, and the ally X actually fixed a lot of the stuff people complained about with the first ally
at $840 it feels wrong… but also tempting in a way that makes me suspicious of myself
the thing that changed my mind on the ally x specifically was the battery the original ally felt like a plugged in handheld pretending to be portable the x is the first time it actually feels usable off the charger without anxiety
thats exactly whats pulling me in steam deck oled battery spoiled me and i cant go back to 45 minutes then panic
fwiw ive bought fair from best buy before it usually means cosmetic nonsense scratches, scuffed shell not internal issues but yeah you have to be okay emotionally with imperfections
ill say it upfront steam deck OLED is still the better experience out of the box. steamOS just works suspend/resume is flawless and you dont fight windows every time you want to play something
windows is annoying but it also means zero compatibility hoops game pass, mods, weird launchers, anti-cheat all just… work
if you the kind of person who hates workarounds ally x makes sense
