i tried replaying this after years and it still feels off compared to older silent hill games it leans way more into combat and less into psychological horror which kind of changes the whole vibe
thats because it was developed by a western studio you can feel the shift immediately its more in your face horror instead of that slow suffocating dread the earlier games had
yeah but i dont think it’s all bad the combat being more involved at least makes you feel less helpless in older silent hill games fighting felt like a last resort
but that helplessness was part of the identity though you werent supposed to feel capable in homecoming alex feels like he can actually handle himself which kills some of the fear
ill be honest i think the story is better than people give it credit for the whole family guilt and sacrifice theme is actually pretty dark once you piece it together

it has good ideas but the execution is messy the twist about Alex feels more confusing than impactful on a first playthrough
i had the same issue when the reveal happened, i wasnt shocked i was just trying to process what the game was even saying
i think it works better if you already know Silent Hill’s style of storytelling if you new it can feel like it comes out of nowhere
